Located in Lynn Canal about 20 miles south of Haines, AK, the storied Eldred Rock Lighthouse has withstood more than a century of harsh Alaska weather.

From my perch on the open top deck of a passing ship, acquiring this photograph required a real team effort between my tripod and myself; the tripod needed to be held down to keep it from being blown away and I needed to hold onto the tripod to keep from being knocked over by the gusty wind. Plus, with the ship traveling at cruising speed the view was changing very rapidly, allowing a time window of only a few seconds to capture the desired composition.
